Review-Best park and beach in Cleveland area-Munroe Falls Metro Park

Munroe Falls Metro Park

The 13 acre Munroe Falls lake is dedicated exclusively to swimming, features diving boards, a large wading area, and a central swimming area and is surrounded by lawn and sand beach.  The lake is located in a valley and this adds to its appearance.  Munroe Falls Metro Park is one of the 13 developed parks within Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, a metropolitan park district, that serves Summit County and is fully funded by this county’s tax levy.

Beaches in Munroe Falls Metro Park

  1. Sand Beach-Families with children tend to prefer this beach because of the graduated lake bed slope and lower water depth.
  2. Maple Beach-It lies adjacent to the sand beach and is its extension.
  3. Main Beach-Preferred by older children and adults.

City of Middleburg Heights Community Center playground rocks

Park sign in Middleburg Heights

Park sign in Middleburg Heights

Installing a sign like the one above, near the area of the playground equipment at the the City of Solon Community Park might provide high benefit for the small cost.  Its likely that it won’t put an end to the rough play by younger and older teenagers.   This inexpensive park sign will serve as a helpful reminder to some of the playground equipment users.

The variety of playground equipment at City of Middleburg Heights Community Center playground makes it one of the best playgrounds in the Cleveland area.  This playground has something for children of all ages and its easily accessible.

Click on the location map of Munroe Falls Metro Park to enlarge it. Munroe Falls Metro Park in City of Munroe Falls is the best family park in the Greater Cleveland area. The highlight of the park is the gently sloping kid friendly beach. Life guards are on duty. Munroe Falls Metro Park has an artificial lake that is is not large. The lake is in the middle of a valley in the topography and makes up for its small size with its cleanliness and beauty. There is an admission fee to the park, the parking is free. I did not see any dogs in the park and probably they are not permitted. Munroe Falls Metro Park does have cleaner toilets equipped with folding diaper changing platforms. Park rangers are seen patrolling the park on bicycles and they provide a degree of safety to the park visitors. Public barbecue grills are available but I am not sure if they are very clean.

Unfortunately, Munroe Falls Metro Park is one of the few parks in the Greater Cleveland area that is remarkable. The most disappointing parks in the Cleveland area are the Huntingdon Beach Park in Bay Village and Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor.

Sewer Camera?

Sewer Camera?

City of Solon’s Earth Day celebration at the Solon Community Park was a home run.  Folks were lining up for mulch and the paper shredder.  Perfect weather, free food, bad day for Debbie Downer.

The picture is that of  City of Solon’s sewer camera truck, I think.

If you are considering buying a home in an area that is prone to basement flooding, it may be worth it to find out if the property has an existing backwater valve or needs a backwater valve.  The better backwater valves are not inexpensive.

One would think that real estate agents would be obligated under their fiduciary responsibility to give potential home buyers  hints about significant and publicized events like the major flood events.  Further, some homeowners insurance policy may require that the property must have a backwater valve to be covered against flooding due to sewer backups.

We were at the Solon Community Center and noticed a group of vehicles in the parking lot.  The City of Solon in Ohio was celebrating Earth Day at the Solon Community Center.  On display was this  City of Solon Service Department’s truck by Vactor.  I think this vehicle is used for cleaning sewers and/or stormwater catch basins located within City of Solon’s right of way.

Right of Way: When land is initially developed, the land owners dedicate part of the land as “public right-of-way” for streets, sidewalks, utilities and similar public uses.  What some property owners do not realize is that they may be  responsible for maintaining part of the right-of-way next to their property, including the sidewalk and planting strip.  Property owners may also be responsible for drainage line blocks within their property limits and the municipal agency’s responsibility may begin at the point where the drainage line connects to the sewer main.  This may vary with each municipal agency and one should always check with them.

Where there is smoke (a sewer cleaning truck), there is fire (sewer backup issues)

Dr. Roizen's Presentation in City of Solon

Included below are images from Dr. Michael Roizen’s presentation at Solon High School Auditorium in City of Solon, Ohio.  I took these photographs with a $100 point and shoot digital camera with a tiny sensor.  With the flash off, of course.  I have a video file from the presentation.  I plan on uploading it in the coming days.

Dr. Roizen is the Chief Wellness Officer of Cleveland Clinic.   Dr. Roizen is also known for the Real Age concept.  I understood from Dr. Roizen’s introduction that this is the only position of its kind in our country at this time.  The event was sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio.  About 250 people turned up for Dr. Roizen’s presentation despite somewhat poor weather conditions.  Dr. Roizen had an interesting set of images that showed the effect of sugar but Dr. Roizen went through them a bit fast and I was unable to photograph them.  From what Dr. Roizen said, I understood that it takes about 34 seconds for the rupture of arterial plaque to the formation of a block that leads to a heart attack.

Attending Dr. Roizen’s presentation reinforced some information that I already knew.  Sometimes re-mind-ing becomes as important as knowing the information.

After using WordPress for sometime, I am beginning to understand the importance for writing for my favorite search engine, Google; hence the frequent inclusion of the keyword for this post, Roizen.

Cleveland Foreclosure Auction

Cleveland Area Foreclosed Property Auction

Curiosity took me to a real estate auction for properties in foreclosure in Cleveland and Northeast Ohio.  It was held on November 8, 2008 at the Holiday Inn in Strongsville.  I had received an email from Joseph Kutina about this auction.  Joseph Kutina is with Reo Property Consultants in Strongsville, Ohio.

Each property that came up for bid was put up on the screen and bids were solicted.  The folks in the blue shirt noted the bids.

A lady who sat in front of me lost a bid for a condo in Sagamore Hills, her last bid was $18,000.  The highest bid for the condo was $20,000.  She look at the bid winner and then walked out of the hall after this condo auction with a look of disappointment.  A couple of young women had the winning bid at $1700 for a property.  A property in the Elyria area received a maximum bid of $100, yes, one hundred bucks. → continue reading Cleveland Foreclosure Auction
