 Solon High School
The words premiere and special have been used to proudly refer to the Solon, Ohio at public meetings held in the Solon Council Chambers. People relocate to Solon, Ohio because Solon Schools have a good reputation. Solon Schools District is not considered “just an another school district”.
A report by Jeff Maynor titled, Solon Police investigate teen sex incidents, is an eye opener to the Solon community and the parents who have children in Solon Schools because it involves teenagers, presumably students in Solon Schools, engaging in sex at the Solon Public Library, Solon Community Center and Solon High School. Solon Police Department and Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court are handling these pattern of incidents.
One teenage girl says she was raped in the family restroom at the Solon Public Library.
Another says she had sex with a boy at the Solon Community Center because he wouldn’t stop “texting” her, asking for sex.
Another girl says she had sex with two boys outside in the parking lot during a wrestling tournament at Solon High School, but refused two other boys and texted her friends inside, asking them to call her so she could leave the group. All three recent incidents are under investigation by the Solon Police department and the juvenile court. The library incident is reported as a rape with threat of force. The other two were reported as sexual batteries. → continue reading Solon Crime: Teenage sex incidents reported in Solon Schools
Thank you Chairman Towns.
I am Akio Toyoda of Toyota Motor Corporation. I would first like to state that I love cars as much as anyone, and I love Toyota as much as anyone. I take the utmost pleasure in offering vehicles that our customers love, and I know that Toyota’s 200,000 team members, dealers, and suppliers across America feel the same way. However, in the past few months, our customers have started to feel uncertain about the safety of Toyota’s vehicles, and I take full responsibility for that. Today, I would like to explain to the American people, as well as our customers in the U.S. and around the world, how seriously Toyota takes the quality and safety of its vehicles. I would like to express my appreciation to Chairman Towns and Ranking Member Issa, as well as the members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, for giving me this opportunity to express my thoughts today.
I would like to focus my comments on three topics -
- Toyota’s basic philosophy regarding quality control,
- the cause of the recalls, and
- how we will manage quality control going forward.
First, I want to discuss the philosophy of Toyota’s quality control. I myself, as well as Toyota, am not perfect. → continue reading Testimony of Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Corporation
Background: Sugar-sweetened carbonated beverages (called soft drinks) and juices, which have a high glycemic load relative to other foods and beverages, have been hypothesized as pancreatic cancer risk factors. However, data thus far are scarce, especially from non-European descent populations. We investigated whether higher consumption of soft drinks and juice increases the risk of pancreatic cancer in Chinese men and women.
Results: The first 14 years for the cohort resulted in cumulative 648,387 person-years and 140 incident pancreatic cancer cases. → continue reading Soft drinks linked to pancreatic cancer

Check out this letter from Edolphus Towns, Chairman Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to Raymond LaHood, Secretary, US Department of Transporation. Chairman Towns states that “the problem may not be limited to Toyota”!. Secretary LaHood is reported to have called Toyota “a little safety deaf”. When a senior government official comes out with such a strong statement, citizens have to extrapolate the nature of safety concerns that could have prompted this statement.

Paula Schleis is the author of a valuable article titled Day with Warren Buffett enriching to University of Akron students in The Akron Beacon Journal. The article is based on a meeting between Warren Buffett and a few University of Akron students lead by Todd A. Finkle, Associate Professor of Management, Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, University of Akron. In this article, the most striking comments from Warren Buffett are not about investments but about friendship and love. While Buffett’s friendship test’s validity is debatable, what is clear is that he has learned from his life’s experiences.
Todd Finkle said many comments made a deep impression on him as well, but one he’ll never forget was in response to Finkle’s own question about the most influential people in Warren Buffett’s life. Among those Warren Buffett named was a friend who was a Polish Jew, taken to a World War II concentration camp after an acquaintance reported the friend’s hiding place to the Germans. Warren Buffett said ever since hearing that story, ”when he would begin friendships, he would ask the question: Would this person hide me from the Nazis?”
”Warren Buffett then went on to say that one of the most important things [if not the most important] was unconditional love. If you can find two or three people who love you unconditionally, you are a lucky person.”
