A Digital Parking Meter
I saw this digital parking meter in Niagara Falls, New York. This digital parking meter is beneficial for drivers and their municipalities. Drivers can pay with cash, credit cards, debit cards. I wondered if paying by credit or debit card would be secure.
With its ability to detect the presence of a parked car, and fine vehicles that have not paid or overstayed, it is expected to bring in 5 times the revenue of traditional parking meters. I know that municipalities love revenue from their parking enforcement divisions but as a citizen I would not support this project at the proposal level at the city council. I understand that this may have been an experimental installation in Niagara Falls, a city that is seeing its best days in the rear view mirror. How could City of Niagara Falls asphyxiate, despite having this natural wonder of the world?
