We just purchased 6.5 acres in Summit county, OH. How would we go about seeing if a well could be drilled on our land and what are the requirements?

How old is the well? Is it active? Was it a hydrofracked well? Hydrofracking corrupts well water. Do you have well water? Has it been plugged. The most dangerous times are drilling and plugging. As a rule, wells do not age well - no pun intended. They leak. If you have city water this is less of a risk.
There are also H2S risks from wells, also known as poisonous gas.
If you had an enormous amount of acreage and the well was FAR away AND you had city water, it might be ok.
You might contact <a href="http://www.neogap.org/" rel="nofollow">NEOGAP </a>for more info.

We are considering buying a lot (0.43 acre) with a gas well on it. does this pose any kind of unhealthy living situations for our family? Are there dangers of having a gas well in your backyard? Pros/Cons please.

The well needs to be 100 feet from any building or object on the land (fence is exempt). However the actual drilling of a well takes up quite a bit more space, and tends to make a mess of the landscape. Drillers will typically flatten the necessary area for drilling, and will not backfill.

The property disclosure form does not cover all areas needed. Often in Ohio, previous owners have retained or leased the mineral rights. In Ohio, this can mean that a well can be put even closer than 100 feet to your home through the use of directional drilling.

It is important to find out who owns the mineral rights to the property.
