4% among us are psychopaths or sociopaths | The Sociopath Next Door

According to Martha Stout, author of The Sociopath Next door, 4% of the population (1 in 25 people) are psycopaths or sociopaths.  What is psychopathy or sociopathy?  In short, it is the condition of missing conscience.

Dr. Martha Stout states that according to the bible of psychiatric labels, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Discorders IV, the clinical diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder should be considered when an individual possesses at least three of the following characteristics: → continue reading 4% among us are psychopaths or sociopaths | The Sociopath Next Door

Soft drinks linked to pancreatic cancer

Background: Sugar-sweetened carbonated beverages (called soft drinks) and juices, which have a high glycemic load relative to other foods and beverages, have been hypothesized as pancreatic cancer risk factors.  However, data thus far are scarce, especially from non-European descent populations. We investigated whether higher consumption of soft drinks and juice increases the risk of pancreatic cancer in Chinese men and women.

Results: The first 14 years for the cohort resulted in cumulative 648,387 person-years and 140 incident pancreatic cancer cases. → continue reading Soft drinks linked to pancreatic cancer

President Obama visits Cleveland Clinic

President Obama considers Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic as role models.  He said “You know, I’m going to be visiting . . . the Cleveland Clinic to show — to show why their system works so well.  And part of the reason it works well is because  they’ve set up a system where patient care is the number one concern, not bureaucracy, what forms have to be filled out, what do we get reimbursed for.  Those are changes that I think the American people want to see.”

President Obama also held a meeting in Shaker Heights.  Shaker Heights ranks high in this list of top Cleveland suburbs.

Dr. Roizen's Presentation in City of Solon

Included below are images from Dr. Michael Roizen’s presentation at Solon High School Auditorium in City of Solon, Ohio.  I took these photographs with a $100 point and shoot digital camera with a tiny sensor.  With the flash off, of course.  I have a video file from the presentation.  I plan on uploading it in the coming days.

Dr. Roizen is the Chief Wellness Officer of Cleveland Clinic.   Dr. Roizen is also known for the Real Age concept.  I understood from Dr. Roizen’s introduction that this is the only position of its kind in our country at this time.  The event was sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio.  About 250 people turned up for Dr. Roizen’s presentation despite somewhat poor weather conditions.  Dr. Roizen had an interesting set of images that showed the effect of sugar but Dr. Roizen went through them a bit fast and I was unable to photograph them.  From what Dr. Roizen said, I understood that it takes about 34 seconds for the rupture of arterial plaque to the formation of a block that leads to a heart attack.

Attending Dr. Roizen’s presentation reinforced some information that I already knew.  Sometimes re-mind-ing becomes as important as knowing the information.

After using WordPress for sometime, I am beginning to understand the importance for writing for my favorite search engine, Google; hence the frequent inclusion of the keyword for this post, Roizen.
